A new height has been announced for the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. Nepal and China announced a new height of Everest in a special program through virtual media on Tuesday. Accordingly, the new height of Everest has been maintained at 8848.86 meters. In other words, the height of Everest has increased by 86 cm.



Earlier, Nepal had been recognizing the height of Mount Everest measured at 8848 meters as measured by the Survey of India in 1954, while China had been saying that the height of Mount Everest was 8 thousand 845 meters. With the new announcement, the height of Mount Everest is now uniform.

A recent cabinet meeting approved the new height of Mount Everest. After that, Nepal also announced the height in coordination with China.

Millions of rupees have been spent to measure the height of Everest, which was started in the fiscal year 75-76. The government has spent tens of millions to measure the height of Everest after the Department of Surveying and Mapping estimated that the 2072 earthquake may have affected the height of Everest.

During the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal in 2019, it was agreed to jointly declare the height of Mount Everest. Accordingly, government teams from Nepal and China were deployed to measure the height of Mount Everest.
